The Bakehouse, so named because it was originally the baking and curing house for the farm, was built around 1800. In more recent years it was home to members of the family who farmed here since the 17th Century. The cottage has this year been sympathetically restored to a very high standard whilst keeping all the warmth and character of its 200 year history intact.
Downstairs: the front entrance leads into the living room, decorated in shades of terracotta, cream and pale blue. The room has a large feature fireplace with cast iron wood burning stove, a comfortable sofa and a breakfast table and chairs. There is a fully equipped corner kitchen with sink, dishwasher, gas hob, electric oven, under counter fridge, and storage space.
Also on the ground floor are the cloakroom and bathroom, decorated in cool white and pale turquoise, with wc, full-size bath with overhead shower.
From the living room, French windows lead out onto to the south-facing terrace which enjoys full sun, as well as the welcome dappled shade of the grapevine canopy at one end.
The (quite steep) wooden hayloft staircase take you up from the living room into the charming cream and robins’ egg blue double bedroom, which is tastefully furnished with a wrought iron double bed (140cm x 190cm), dressing table and mirror, and ample fitted wardrobe space in the eaves.
The front of the Bakehouse faces onto the gravelled farm courtyard with its lovely twin robinia trees, where it has its own parking space, and there is a large grassy area at the side of the house for sunloungers etc.
We warmly invite you to come and enjoy the beautiful character of this delightful cottage, relax on the terrace, watch the birds and the butterflies, and spend your days lazing or exploring - as the mood takes you!
